DEVELOPING: Magnitude 7.7 earthquake hits Cuba, Jamaica, tsunami warning issued
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck 77 miles northwest of Lucea, Jamaica around 2:10 p.m. local time Tuesday at a depth of six miles.
It's not immediately clear if there are damage or injuries. It was centered only about six miles beneath the surface.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a warning just after 3 p.m. local time that tsunami waves have been observed.
Hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coastal areas, including Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Cayman Islands, and Jamica, according to the NOAA alert.
