A man was found lying in the street in Anchorage this weekend, and was pronounced dead on the scene, after investigators believe he was struck by one or possibly two vehicles.

According to the Anchorage Police Department, someone walking in the area of Commercial Drive and Mountain View Drive saw the man lying sprawled out in the street near the intersection, motionless.

Upon taking a closer look, they called 911, and police arrived just after 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night.

According to MJ Thim, spokesperson for APD, a preliminary investigation suggested one or two vehicles hit the man. Thim said according to witnesses, a gold Chrysler Town and Country van was seen driving in the area.

"We believe that they witnessed the crash, we do not believe they struck the victim, we're asking for their help," Thim said Monday morning.

In addition to the occupants of the van, Thim said APD is looking for surveillance video and other witnesses who may have seen something.

The name and age of the man killed is still pending, as police are trying to inform his family of his death before releasing his information.
