A Weekend of Remembrance: Memorial Day ceremonies and events in Southcentral
Monday is Memorial Day, and we’ve got a list of ceremonies and events happening around Anchorage.
To kick off Memorial Day weekend, an open-air concert is being held by a visiting U.S. Navy brass quintet. That will be at the Alaska Aviation Museum on Friday, May 24, from Noon to 1 p.m. The concert is free to the public.
Downtown on the Delaney Park Strip from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., at the Park Strip Memorial. It is free to the public.
Noon at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson
American Legion Jack Henry Post 1 hosts this event from 1 - 5 p.m. Monday. Dnager Money is playing. Menu includes roasted pig, ribs, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and plenty of sides and desserts.
12:15 p.m. ceremony at the new site of the Mat-Su Veterans Wall of Honor at the old site of Iditarod Elementary School, on Wasilla-Fishhook Road.
Local Amvets Post NO. 11 will lead a march from the Wasilla Post Office down Main Street to the Cemetery. Participants will leave the Post Office at 10:45 a.m. and conclude at the gravesite of a soldier.
At the Northway Mall on Monday, May 27. That event runs from noon until 4:00 p.m.
