Memorial ride honors 13 year old who loved muscle cars
Jimmy Bedwell worked to give his 13 year old son, Micheal Crawford the perfect birthday present last year, a ride around town in a muscle car, and transform what was a rusty car into "Herbie" the Love Bug.
While Micheal passed away in November, Bedwell organized a memorial ride on Saturday in his honor.
"I always believed that you shouldn't have to bury your children, your children should have to bury you so, this, I believe is the best way to keep him alive in our hearts is to just keep doing this for him," Bedwell said.
Micheal had a rare disorder and lived beyond what doctors had anticipated.
To keep his memory alive, Bedwell said it was important to ride to the Alaska Transportation Museum, where he held his birthday party last year.
Micheal would have been 14 years old this past week.
Bedwell said he's now created a nonprofit and runs a Facebook page "Micheal McQueen's Dream" to help others with medical issues.
Bedwell said the memorial ride will be held every year.
