There is a joke in Alaska, that the state bird is the mosquito.
The bugs can be the bane of summer-- buzzing your ears on a camping trip, or the bites that swell up and itch so bad. This video could be a nightmare for some people.
Jeremy Goff works on the North Slope, a part of the state notorious for swarms of the pesky blood-sucking insects. Mosquitos cover the side of his work truck, crowd along the windows, and literally piled into corners.
They are a scourge to the herds of caribou that roam the grassy tundra as well as humans. it is estimated that there are about 17 trillion mosquitos in Alaska.
