Longtime activist and advocate for the homeless community, Mother ‘Alice’ Lawrence was laid to rest Saturday.

A celebration of her life was held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Mother Lawrence was known for her work in Anchorage providing food and supplies to those in need in her neighborhood. Her food pantry became well known and her children say she was often giving away her own clothing to the needy.

She is survived by her four sons and three daughters who plan to continue her legacy.

"She was there to help with everything. If anybody needed something she was there. She was giving, she was selfless, she was transparent, she was there to do what she needed to do and she did it very well," says Jacob Lawrence, Alice's son.

Mother Lawrence's family is working to continue her legacy with their foundation and they are also are hoping to work with the town and rename Mountain View Drive to Mother Lawrence Foundation drive.
