After 40 years, city officials are looking to relocate the Anchorage School District Transportation Hub following the possibility of a new grocery store moving into the area of the current site. The sites on the short list aren't too far from the current location.

A site selection study was completed in September of 2018 outlining five potential locations but isolating the ideal sites down to two. In fact, one of them is directly across the street from the current ASD Transportation Hub.

Of the top two locations, one is off Patterson and Tudor in East Anchorage. The other location is across the street from the current site off Elmore and Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The city says that these sites would have the least negative impact on the surrounding neighborhoods.

"At this point the site selection study will go to the planning and zoning commission for a public hearing. Their review and recommendations will go on to the Assembly," said Robin Ward, Anchorage Real Estate Department Director.

That meeting is planned to happen on December 10 at the ZJ Loussac Library, located at 3600 Denali Street at 6:30 PM.
