Nanooks player to miss remainder of season undergoing cancer treatment

Jack Weiss, a junior defenseman with the Alaska Nanooks, will miss the remainder of the 2017-2018 season to undergo treatment for cancer, according to a release posted on the University of Alaska Nanooks athletics page and shared through social media Saturday.

Weiss, who is from Bloomington Minnesota, was diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this month, the release states. According to the team’s website, Weiss is expected to begin chemotherapy on Tuesday in Minnesota and will spend more than two months receiving treatment."I am looking forward to beating this and getting back on the ice as soon as possible,” Weiss said in the written statement.

Weiss has appeared in four games for the Nanooks this season. Throughout his three years with Alaska, the blue-liner has played in 40 games, collecting one goal and eight assists for nine points, the release said.

The team is encouraging the use of the hashtag #StickIt2Cancer to support Jack and his fight on social media.
