Guitar Center & Carrs to open at Sears location
Sears has left its midtown Anchorage location, but two new stores will be taking over its vacant floor space.
Al Tamagni, Sr., president of the Midtown Community Council, confirms that the group was told last week that Carrs-Safeway will open a grocery store at the location, and national music retailer Guitar Center will take over part of the space left vacant with the departure of Sears.
Tamagni says an engineering firm for the property owner gave the community council a presentation, showing that the the plans include restructuring the outside of the building on Benson Blvd. and Northern Lights Blvd.
Guitar Center has more than 260 stores across the country. "Our new store complements the already rich atmosphere of musicianship in the area,” a media representative wrote in a statement to KTUU.
According to the company’s website, “Guitar Center is the world’s largest retailer of guitars, amplifiers, drums, keyboards, recording, live sound, DJ, and lighting equipment.”
Details on how many employees could be hired were not available, according to the media representative.
