New Mexico climber dies after 500 foot fall near Eklutna Lake

A 25-year-old New Mexico man died after a 500 foot fall from Goat Mountain near Eklutna Lake outside Anchorage on Wednesday.

According to Alaska State Troopers, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center coordinated with an Alaska Air National Guard's 176th Rescue Wing helicopter and pararescue team on the mission after receiving reports of the fall from a fellow climber on the scene.

When the rescue team arrived on scene, they discovered the victim was deceased after falling approximately 500 feet according to AST.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Daniel Dresher of New Mexico.

His body was recovered and taken back to Anchorage for an autopsy.

Dresher's family has been notified.
