Day of one-stop shopping for homeless services in Anchorage

The Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness offered a one-stop-shop on Wednesday to help those living on the street transition into housing.

From 10 a.m to 3 p.m., about 800 people attended the 15th Anchorage Project Homeless Connect held at the Egan Center.

The one-day event provided the city's homeless with easy access to a number of services including housing, mental health, medical, resume help, substance abuse services, and many others.

"Today is a one-stop-shop for those who are on the verge or experiencing homelessness," said Trevor Storrs, Event Director. "The whole idea is to bring all services to one location so people can quickly and easily access those supports to prevent homelessness or more importantly, get themselves out of homelessness.'

According to Storrs, for someone in Anchorage to access all the services offered through Project Homeless Connect, they would have to travel about 50 miles around town.

4,000 people experience homelessness everyday in Anchorage, according to the coalition.
