UPDATE: Police say shooting that sent girl to the hospital was 'non-intentional'
Anchorage Police have arrested a man for a South Anchorage shooting Sunday afternoon that sent a girl to the hospital.
Police say the shooting was 'non-intentional.'
18-year-old Dharma Waldron was taken into custody where he faces multiple charges including first-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
A girl was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after a shooting inside a South Anchorage home Sunday afternoon, Anchorage police say.
Police responded to reports of a shooting on the 8800 block of McClellan Circle at around 1:30 p.m. The area is just off of West 88th Avenue near Dimond High School.
“The preliminary investigation found that a female juvenile was shot in the upper body inside a residence,” APD wrote in a statement. “She was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
MJ Thim, a public affairs spokesperson with APD, says that the cause of the shooting is under investigation.
Police said two people were being questioned by detectives, and they are not searching for any suspects at this time.
Thim did confirm that one of the people inside the property called the police. Police could not comment on where the girl was shot or whether this was an accidental shooting.
“This is an isolated incident and not random,” police added.
