Every Friday morning, Palmer High School junior Zoe Nelles makes over a dozen sandwiches.
She was inspired to start the Sandwich Project after learning about homeless and in transition students that are in need of a weekend meal.
"We all know how hard it is to be a kid but when you don't have a meal for over the weekends. It's like unimaginable," Nelles said.
She coordinates with the Palmer High School nurse to deliver the meals.
"She saw a problem and she acted on it," said PHS nurse Carmen Pell. "A lot times not many of us will do that."
Nelles plans to have the Sandwich Project continue after she graduates.
"What I would really love is to see the sandwich project be all throughout the Valley," she said. "Because there is a need like in every school."
