Anchorage Police now say there isn't enough evidence to charge a man with kidnapping in a manhunt that took place Thursday morning.

The suspect, Rasean Daniels, was charged with vehicle theft, resisting arrest and assault, in addition to two felony and two misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest.

The SUV involved in the morning's events had been stolen.

The Anchorage Police Department released a statement Thursday evening on why Daniels wasn't charged with kidnapping:

"Throughout the day detectives have been reviewing evidence in relation to this morning’s incident. Probable cause was not developed to support a kidnapping charge. This investigation is still ongoing; the District Attorney has the authority to add, amend, or delete charges should it become necessary."

11 a.m. Update:

The Anchorage Police Department reported that Rasean Daniels was taken into custody following an area-wide manhunt.

According to Thim, Daniels was found by an APD K9, who successfully tracked him to a hiding place near a home, where the K9 latched on to him, and he was apprehended by police.

Thim said that Daniels and the woman involved know one another, and were involved in a domestic relationship of some kind, making it an isolated incident.

Thim said Daniels was a fugitive, wanted on an arrest warrant related to a vehicle theft.

Original Story:

Early Thursday, police vehicles blocked off the entrances to a trailer court in East Anchorage. Officers with the Anchorage Police Department moved in, guns drawn, after setting up a perimeter around Penland Parkway.

The reason for this action, police say, is an ongoing manhunt for a suspect they called "armed and dangerous" after a reported kidnapping at the Black Angus Inn.

According to an alert made by APD, Rasean Daniels, 25, is wanted as a suspect in the abduction, and police are combing the Penland Parkway area to find him.

According to MJ Thim, police spokesperson, a call of an abduction came in at 9:15 Thursday morning. Daniels allegedly forced a woman into an SUV.

Some time later, the SUV was found abandoned and the woman was recovered safely. Daniels, however, was not located.

Police pursued tips and believe he is somewhere in the Penland Parkway trailer court. Thim said that "under no circumstances should he be approached, he is believed to be armed and dangerous, pleasecall 911 immediately if you see him."

Daniels is described as being 5'7" tall and 215 pounds. He was last seen wearing black t-shirt, dark jeans, short hair, goatee, and carrying an arm load of clothes. Police said he may now be wearing a gray wind breaker.
