Police seek halfway house escapee, convcited in brutal 2013 beating

Anchorage Police are looking for a man who left a halfway house who was serving time for assault.
Michael Liufau, 26, was sentenced to four years in jail for his part in a 2013 assault on an 18-year-old man found unconscious in a downtown Anchorage home scheduled to be demolished. An anonymous letter sent to UAA police led to the young man’s discovery. He spent time in a coma due to his injuries.
Liufau was also sentenced to three years for a separate case.
Monday, Anchorage police issued a public alert asking for assistance finding him, saying he left the Cordova Center halfway house.
Police say Liufau is 5-foot-9 and weighs 220 lbs.
