Registration deadline nears for upcoming April election
The Municipal Election is almost a month away, and the deadline by which residents must be registered to vote is coming soon.
The municipal clerks office is reminding residents of the deadline, which will fall on Sunday, Mar. 4. Any Alaska voter and Anchorage resident can register, however as always you must be 18 years of age before the April 3 election day.
Long time voters need to pay attention to the deadlines as well if they have outdated information in their voting profile with the State of Alaska Division of Elections. Things like name changes or address changes could require your registration to be updated.
Both first time registration as well as updating existing registration can be done online at
This year also marks the first that voting will be done by mail. According to the municipality, "traditional polling locations" will not be an option for voting on election day; instead, ballot packages will be mailed to qualified voters on Mar. 13, three weeks before election day.
From there, residents will be able to place their votes and send the ballots back. According to the municipal clerks office, this is done in one of three ways.
"Voters will [...] return their ballot by Secure Drop Box, Accessible Vote Center (AVC), or by mailing through the USPS. Specific hours and locations for Drop Boxes and AVCs can be found at muni.org/elections/AVC."
