Roadtrippin': Dawson City keeps its Klondike-era charm while finding a new bonanza
“I think everybody is a character in this town,” one resident tells our Roadtrippin’ team in the city that once housed over 30,000 gold-seekers.
The town has quieted down since then, but the summer months are their own bonanza in the form of tourism.
The town houses about 1,400 residents for most of the year, but during the summer, the number swells up to 4,800 as tourists flock to the town that holds on tight to its old-timey feel.
“We’re a town of eight streets...we don’t even have a stoplight!” says one proud resident.
