Seawolf women honored in U.S. Senate

The UAA women’s basketball team was recognized on the United States Senate floor last week by Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan.

“This past Thanksgiving Day the UAA women, which has become a Division II powerhouse under head coach Ryan McCarthy, claimed the women’s championship in the final (Great Alaska) Shootout,” said Sullivan.

Sullivan named the team his Alaskan of the week, a recognition given out on the Senate floor for people who make a difference across the state.

“This year the UAA women’s team showed us the definition of grit and determination,” said Sullivan.

The senator would go on to discuss the tournament's 40 years of history, and thank all those who made it happen.
