Anchorage's Stassel gets top ten finish at Olympic Qualifier
Battling foggy conditions Wednesday, Anchorage’s Ryan Stassel sent a clear message Friday that he plans on heading to Pyeongchang.
Stassel took seventh at the U.S. Grand Prix event in Snowmass, Colorado, scoring a 74.77. He finished second among Americans, behind teenage Phenom Redmond Gerrard, who took first place in the event.
Friday's results are huge for Stassel’s chance at making the Olympic team, jumping five spots on the U.S. slopestyle rankings.
The 25-year-old is now tied in third place with Chandler Hunt, on the U.S. slopestyle selection rankings. Fellow U.S. snowboarders Redmond Gerrard and Chris Corning have punched their tickets to Pyeongchang, which leaves just two spots and one more qualifier for Stassel.
