DOT: Whiteout conditions on Seward Highway south of Anchorage

The State says driving between Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula is extremely hazardous, with heavy snow and whiteout conditions on the Seward Highway.
The dangerous conditions are between mileposts 104 and 46. From Indian, between Anchorage and Girdwood, south to where the highway enters the mountain pass after Turnagain Arm, DOT says conditions are “difficult.” From there, DOT’s road conditions map shows hazardous conditions – the harshest category color-coded on the map, until Milepost 46, six miles north of the Sterling Highway cutoff.
The Department of Transportation recommends chains for many parts of the highway, where 12 inches of snow have fallen.
The National Weather Service predicts another 2-4 inches of snow in Turnagain Pass Wednesday night before midnight.
