At 2:25 p.m., on Christmas Day, a fatal fire engulfed a Soldotna trailer with two people inside, according to Brad Nelson, Health and Safety Officer for Central Emergency Services.

The trailer was located on Cardwell Road, 8 miles out of Soldotna, near Kasilof.

When the crews arrived, the 17-foot pull-behind trailer, which was used as a residence, was completely consumed by flames, according to Nelson.

"Campers burn really, really fast and really, really hot," says Nelson.

Once the crews put out the fire, they discovered two bodies inside.

Megan Peters, Information Officer for Alaska State Troopers, says there is no positive identification yet. According to Peters, AST handles next of kin notifications; however, they are waiting on the State Medical Examiner Office to confirm the bodies’ IDs.

CES is handling the investigation for cause of fire, and AST and the Alaska State Fire Marshal's office are assisting in the investigation.

At the moment, there is no known cause for the fire.

When a fire burns as hot as this one, it’s “difficult to find ignition sources,” says Nelson.

This story will be updated, as more information is released.
