7:15 a.m. Update:

More information was made available regarding a crash that dealt significant damage to an Anchorage overpass early Thursday morning.

According to APD spokesperson MJ Thim, the vehicle in question was a dump truck, which appears to have had its dumping apparatus lifted at the time of the crash.

"Right now it appears as though the dump truck was up and that's what hit the bridge," Thim said. "This is under investigation but the back of the truck had separated from the rest of it, indicating that's what struck the bridge."

The driver was reportedly uninjured and so far no criminal charges have been filed in this case.

However, delays are expected during Thursday's commute, as one lane of Tudor Road heading eastbound on the overpass, and one lane of the Seward Highway northbound have been shut down due to the crash.

It is not known when these lanes will be reopened. The Department of Transportation will be handling the case from here as their inspectors head to the scene to assess the damage.

Original Story:

The Anchorage Police Department and the Department of Transportation report an early morning crash impacting traffic on the Seward Highway and Tudor Road.

A large vehicle crashed into the Tudor Road overpass, significantly impacting traffic.

The left two northbound lanes of the Seward Highway at Tudor are closed and the eastbound right lane of Tudor is closed.

APD asks commuters to avoid the area and expects significant traffic delays because of lane closures and repairs.
