Anchorage police are looking for a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle on Saturday, was discovered by Floyd Hall, fired shots upon encountering him Tuesday morning, and then fled before reportedly swiping another vehicle to make his escape.
APD said that a call reporting an incident involving a stolen vehicle and shots fired came in around 11:15 Tuesday morning.
Hall, a leader of the self-proclaimed ‘A-Team’ that’s been recovering stolen vehicles around town for about three years now, said the owner of the truck reached out to him about recovering it. Hall eventually spotted the vehicle in Spenard, near Lois Dr., and said he was threatened by the driver.
The driver shot into the ground, police said, leaving a dent in the roadway and shell casings behind. Eventually, he parked across from a Spenard business called Webco, and fled again.
"This guy actually jumped out, went through a yard, and as he was running through somebody's yard, said, 'I just got out of jail,'" Hall said.
Hall was unharmed.
"I was taught to be a good Alaskan by my dad," he said. "This is what you do. You help good Alaskans."
According to Anchorage police, the suspect is described as white adult male wearing a dark or grey top and blue jeans. Anyone with information about this investigation, including surveillance video, should call Dispatch at 311.
