The first in a series of workshops to discuss future plans for Anchorage's Town Square park was held Saturday.

Taking ownership of the park is one goal in the public meetings for the park, "If there's lots of positive active use, healthy use in that park, it's a pretty good deterrent of that type of negative behavior," Steve Rafuse with Anchorage Parks and Recreation said.

Organizers of the workshop say they're looking to change the perception of safety around town square and develop a more comprehensive plan to utilize the space.

Participants at the Saturday session were encouraged to "think big."

If you'd like to get involved, the next workshop takes place June 3rd.

According to the Anchorage Parks and Rec website, an August 19th workshop will focus on community design for the park.

A master plan draft review workshop will be held on September 23rd, according to the department.
