JBER identifies Army Alaska soldier killed in bear attack

Alaska State Troopers say additional law enforcement will be on the road this weekend and working with the search and rescue team as they expect to see an increase in folks calling for assistance over the holiday weekend.

An Anchorage man that police arrested as part of a January homicide case was indicted Thursday on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence, according to the Alaska Department of Law.

The Fairbanks Police Department said in a press release that they are actively investigating the incident as a homicide, which occurred just before 2 a.m. near 27th Avenue and Mercier Street.

The Alaska Division of Forestry is asking residents to be vigilant over the Memorial Day weekend as hot and dry conditions have led to high fire danger statewide.

Former nominee for Alaska Attorney General Ed Sniffen has been charged with three counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor, according to the Department of Law.

For years the city has provided lifeguards at both Jewel Lake and Goose Lake in the summertime, but according to the Anchorage Parks and Recreation Department website, a staffing shortage means lifeguard hours at the lakes will be cut back to weekends only.
