Unalaska just had the grand reopening of their new and expanded library. (April 30th, 2023) For almost a year they had to operate out of a small, former chapel. So, when the building was ready for the books to come the 900 feet back into the new building? They decided to involve the entire town creating a ‘human-chain’ of 250 of the town folks, from students to road crew workers, all political affiliations and all ages from kindergarten to retired …to pass the 500 books, hand by hand to their new home. Librarian Karen Kresh says it was a beautiful and joyous site to see, the entire town coming together for an hour to transfer books. It was a one-of-a-kind community bonding moment that she says she and everyone in Unalaska who participated in… will never forget.
