What a Mother’s Day Gift! When Olin Ahonen was just three years-old, his dad, Adam asked him what he wanted to get his mom, Mary for Christmas. Olin said I want to get mom a ‘fun run’ and the ‘Olin Turbo and Mom Family Fun Run ‘was born! Olin said he wanted a blow-up start and finish line, a fire truck and running bibs for all that enter the short 2K course behind Service High School here in Anchorage. The event featured moms, kids, dads, dogs and even a couple former Olympians. Mary, Olin’s mom… is a 2017 Hall of Fame inductee to the track from UAA.
May 14th, 2023 is the 5th year the event has been held and it happens on every Mother’s Day. The ‘word-of-mouth’ fun-run raises money for AWAIC (Abused Women’s Aid In Crisis Inc.). On this day there were over 100 participants and all the mom’s got carnation flowers when they finished. Olin has learned the fine art of giving a gift …that gives back.
