This month, the non-profit Heroes Healing Homestead – the brainchild of veteran Atz Kilcher – celebrated progress of its Homer location at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Atz’s family homesteaded in Alaska in 1940 when his father Yule Kilcher was given 160 acres of federal land. Yule was also a senator in the State Legislature. Called pioneer veterans, eight military veteran musicians (that Atz met at country singer Zach Brown's camp south of Atlanta last fall) came up to spend four days at Heroes Healing Homestead … and also perform around Homer during the week of Summer Solstice with a big concert at the Homer deep water dock on June 21. This is the story of the opening ceremony which took place on June 16. For more on Heroes Healing Homestead go to their website, heroeshealinghomestead.org. Have an idea for the Allgood News?
