Megan Walsted is a wife, mother to eight children, a teacher, and a sustainable urban farmer — which means she lives in the city of Anchorage and grows vegetables, has some rabbits, chickens, and now goats and sheep. Goats and sheep are pets and future food, but in the meantime, the cost of feeding them can be a bit pricey. So on a whim, she posted her goats on the Next Door app as a lawnmowing alternative, and the response has been overwhelming. Goats will eat just about anything put before them and sheep love fresh greens. Just last week, she began lending her small herd out to groom and chew on lawns. She doesn’t charge yet, but says she probably will start collecting a small transportation fee to offset any gas and travel expenses.
