More heavy snow for Juneau; bitter cold most everywhere else
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Another round of heavy snow is forecasted for Juneau — 18 to 22 inches could fall by Monday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning through 9 p.m. Monday. While heavy snow falls in the state’s capital city, rain is expected for the southern half of the Panhandle as temperatures from Sitka to Petersburg to Ketchikan will reach highs near 40 degrees.
Outside of Southeast, high pressure will maintain its grip on Alaska, and this may be one of the coldest stretches for the season. Parts of the Interior, from Fairbanks to Fort Yukon to Delta Junction, will see daytime highs as low as 43 below zero — with lows near 50 below!
Wind chills on the North Slope are expected to be even colder as north winds give the subzero temperatures a feeling of 55 below. Freezing fog is also forecasted.
Galena southward to McGrath will experience wind chills to 45 below zero, as will the Kuskokwim Delta and Bristol Bay region, including Bethel, Dillingham and King Salmon.
Sunny but cold temperatures will also impact the southcentral region where many locations — including Anchorage, Wasilla and Kenai — will see daytime highs in the single digits with subzero lows.
Stay warm and enjoy the winter sunshine, Alaska!
