(Gray News) - Fans longing for a ‘Happy Gilmore’ sequel are finally in luck.

Drew Barrymore shared on Friday’s episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show” that Adam Sandler, is working on a script for “Happy Gilmore 2.”

It all started when the 49-year-old actress kicked off a segment of her talk show by mentioning rumors reported by Variety about the possible sequel, according to a clip she posted.

“Are you kidding me? I want it, I need it, and I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison,” she said.

The actress went directly to Sandler to find out all the details.

“I’m waiting to see if he’s confirming more about the Happy Gilmore 2 script,” Barrymore said.

She also shared that Christopher McDonald, a co-star in the 1996 film said that Sandler showed him a first draft of the sequel script.

“So this just in, breaking news. I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process,” Barrymore said. “There is a process and that process is in process.”

Adam Sandler co-wrote, produced and starred in “Happy Gilmore” as an unsuccessful hockey player who participates in a golfing tournament to make money to save his grandmother’s home from foreclosure.
