Man charged with assault, kidnapping after armed standoff along Seward Highway
SWAT officers used gas, K9 to draw suspect out of motorhome in parking lot near Indian
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and kidnapping following an hours-long ordeal near mile 103 of the Seward Highway Friday morning.
The Anchorage Police Department first responded to the scene around 6:40 a.m. Friday to a report of a “physical altercation” between a man and a woman in the Chugach State Park Indian Creek parking lot.
Responding officers found the man barricaded inside a motorhome; the unnamed woman emerged from the RV while the man stayed inside.
Shortly after noon, police began using flash bangs and gas in apparent attempts to draw the man out, later identified as Jeffery Michael Vincent Green.
Around 12:30 p.m., a police dog could be seen dragging Green out of the motorhome and onto the sidewalk. SWAT officers then swooped in to take custody of Green, who was taken to the hospital for injuries from the gas and police dog Rylin.
After the arrest, Anchorage police said Green was charged with second-degree, third-degree, and fourth-degree assault, as well as a kidnapping charge.
Police said special Operations, SWAT, Tactical Support, Crisis Negotiation Team, and Mobile Intervention all responded to the scene.
Authorities said the Seward Highway would be periodically closed as emergency vehicles respond.
