ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Weather across the state is impacting roads and prompting closures.

According to the Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT), Thompson Pass from mileposts 12 to 46 will be closed starting Sunday at 8 p.m.

DOT said it is because of “avalanche hazard and severe weather.”

It plans to reassess the road conditions on Monday at 8 a.m. to determine whether Thompson Pass can be opened.

And the Parks Highway will be closed at mile 219, just North of Cantwell, from Sunday at 5 p.m. until Monday at 8 a.m. as avalanche cleanup continues. According to DOT, pilot cars were being used in the area Sunday.

Hatcher Pass Road continues to be closed right after the Skeetawk entrance because of avalanche concerns. Alaska State Parks said there have been avalanches across Palmer-Fishhook and Archangel Roads. It also said an avalanche has dammed the Little Sustina River, which is now flowing through Government Peak Campground.

Work also continues in the interior, DOT said crews have been making progress on clearing major roads, including the Richardson Highway, Steese Highway, Airport Way and Badger Road.
