ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Adam Hendrix’s career run through the World Series of Poker Main Event came to an end Tuesday, as the Anchorage native bowed out at sixth place out of nearly 10,000 entrants.

In making it to the final table, which comprises the last nine players with chips to their names, Hendrix became the first Alaskan to make it there since Perry Green’s run to fifth at the 1991 Main Event, who did so against a field nearly 50 times smaller.

“Right now, I don’t want to play,” Hendrix said to World Series of Poker media after his run came to an end. “That was like nine days and I need a break.”

Through the fatigue, Hendrix still thanked his supporters and fiancée, to whom he will get married in September.

“Maybe I’ll spring for some extra drinks with better steaks,” he joked when asked how his winnings would affect his wedding plans.

Hendrix has now surpassed $10 million in career earnings, according to poker database The Hendon Mob. The $1.9 million payout for sixth place is his largest winnings from any individual tournament.
