‘Makes it even more special’: Twin brothers welcome baby boys together on the same day
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB/Gray News) - Twin brothers in Louisiana are celebrating another family milestone together by welcoming a pair of baby boys.
Auston and Ashton Tureaud have shared nearly every major life moment. But becoming fathers on the same day was something neither of them expected.
“We try to do things as differently as possible. So, it was kind of crazy,” Auston Tureaud said.
Auston Tureaud’s wife was scheduled to give birth on Monday, while Ashton Tureaud’s wife was not due for several more weeks. However, that changed when her water broke unexpectedly.
“Her water broke and we were like, this is possible,” Auston Tureaud said.
Both couples welcomed their sons, Briggs and Tate, on the same day at the Baton Rouge hospital.
Briggs, Ashton Tureaud’s son, was born at 7:30 a.m. Tate, Auston Tureaud’s son, was born at 2 p.m.
And the similarities do not stop there.
Both wives are named Courtney. The four grew up in the same town and have known each other for years.
“Just knowing each other and growing up, it makes it even more special,” Courtney, Ashton Tureaud’s wife, said. “We’ve known each other forever, and now we’re married to twins and went through this whole pregnancy journey together. I’m just blessed to have her.”
Both baby boys were the same length at birth. Their birth weights were also strikingly close. Tate weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces. Briggs weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces.
“You don’t expect something like this to happen,” Ashton Tureaud said. “It’s pretty cool.”
While the family does not know the statistical odds of twins welcoming sons on the same day, they describe it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“I hope they’re like two peas in a pod, or like white on rice,” Auston Tureaud said. “I hope they’re as close as close gets.”
The two couples plan to leave the hospital and return home, where they will continue raising their families as next-door neighbors.
