Small plane damaged on runway at Anchorage airport after reporting landing gear concern
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Emergency crews responded Thursday evening to a small plane that was damaged while landing at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport following a reported landing gear issue.
The plane’s tail number is N441SK. It is owned by Security Aviation.
Jade Andersen, a witness at the scene, said she and her friends noticed the plane was making extremely low passes before its landing while people on the ground watched.
“The nose gear wasn’t extended, and it looked like one of the main gear wasn’t locked, it was kind of at an angle,” Andersen said. “All the emergency vehicles came out, and the plane came in for a landing, and then it landed successfully, a little bit on its side, and the pilot immediately got out and took a picture of it.
“Good job to the pilot.”
Fire units were staged for the aircraft, an AFD spokesperson said in a message. The Airport Police and Fire Department also responded, according to a Ted Stevens Airport spokesperson.
“They are staged for an aircraft that reportedly is concerned about its landing gear,” the AFD spokesperson said.
In an update around 10 p.m., AFD said no injuries were reported. A Ted Stevens Airport spokesperson also said the plane was able to land safely.
The response appeared on PulsePoint as an “aircraft emergency” near Kulis Court at about 8:21 p.m. The app listed several units as assigned to the call.
This is a developing story.
