ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A California woman has been arrested after a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging her with distributing methamphetamine that resulted in the fatal overdose of an Unalaska resident, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

Darlene Moreno, 44, is being charged with one count of meth distribution and one count of use of a communication facility in committing, causing and facilitating the commission of a drug trafficking felony.

If convicted, she faces between 20 years to life in prison.

Court documents allege investigators found social media conversations between the victim, a 48-year-old in Unalaska, and Moreno discussing the purchase of meth in early 2025.

Moreno allegedly shipped a package containing meth from California to Unalaska on Jan. 21, 2025. The victim picked up the package on Jan. 31.

The victim allegedly used the meth and died on Feb. 2. Law enforcement recovered a bag full of a substance from the victim, which tested positively as 98% pure methamphetamine.

Moreno is scheduled to make her initial court appearance Monday before a U.S. Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
