‘PIC-a-Truck’ event helps bring diapers to families in need

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Families braved the cold and rain on Sunday to give their children a chance to get an up-close-and-personal look at some of Anchorage’s most important vehicles while helping provide aid to other children in need.
Programs for Infants and Children (PIC)’s third annual ‘PIC-a-Truck’ event at Clark Middle School featured snow plows, buses, and other large vehicles for kids to explore and learn about.
All the while, the event doubled as a fundraiser of sorts for PIC’s mission to provide aid for young children and families in Anchorage.
“It is our fundraiser for our diaper pantry,” PIC executive director Amy Simpson said. “A couple times a month we hand out diapers to families in need because diapers are very expensive these days.”
The event was free to enter, but many families donated or even brought boxes of diapers directly.
Simpson says the event usually is enough to cover a month’s worth of diapers that her organization distributes.
“It’s a way for us to connect with everyone in the community,” Simpson said. “To let them know the work that we do with infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities.”
