Police involved in deadly shooting at south Anchorage parking lot
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Police were involved in a shooting Thursday afternoon that left one person dead in a south Anchorage parking lot.
Anchorage police reported only a large officer presence on Industry Way, near the corner of Old Seward and Huffman Road, but a reporter at the scene observed a body on the ground that was covered by a sheet.

In a press conference Thursday evening, Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case said that the first report came in at 10:05 a.m. of a burglary at a business on Lore Road, a few miles north of where the shooting actually occurred.
Case said officers were later called to the Carrs-Safeway grocery store on Huffman, where the suspect was.
Case said officers obtained security footage from the store, and found an article of clothing that they were wearing, that helped them track the person down.
Officers found the suspect at roughly 1:40 p.m. in the parking lot, where an altercation took place that included the suspect firing one shot off. The suspect and one officer went to the ground, Case said, and a second officers showed up and fired one shot at the suspect.
Police provided emergency medical care at the scene but the suspect was pronounced dead.
No other officers were hurt, Case said. Officer body-worn camera and dash cam footage were recorded, he said.
Case went on to say that what happened Thursday is a crime that has “just been causing all sorts of havoc in Anchorage,” and he praised his department for how it responded.
“There are so many things in this call that could’ve gone wrong in just a very short couple of seconds but for our officers amazing decisive actions, and I couldn’t be more proud of the team today,” Case said.
Police said at the time that no roads were closed in the area.
The investigation closed off part of the parking lot that includes businesses such as Over the Rainbow Toys and Seawolf Physical Therapy.
