Basketball tournament honors teen killed in Mountain View shooting

Basketball players of all ages gathered at the Mountain View Boys and Girls Club on Sunday for a 3/3 basketball tournament to help raise money for the funeral of 17-year-old Leroy Lawrence, an

The event was organized by Isaac Maeva, a close friend who lived down the street from Leroy and watched him grow up. Basketball, he said, was a big part of Leroy's life.

"I would always wake up and see that he was playing basketball and see him smiling. It's good to see someone doing what they enjoy," Maeva said.

"To see someone lost to violence like that, it's hard."

Each team contributed $20 to go towards the funeral expenses. Some of the players were friends of Leroy's, others knew him through Anchorage's high school basketball community.
