Fort Wainwright soldier found guilty of sexually abusing 3 teens
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A Fairbanks jury found a 25-year-old former Fort Wainwright soldier guilty Tuesday of sexually abusing multiple underage girls.
Shaheed Fleming was arrested in November of 2021 on six counts of sexual abuse of a minor. According to the court documents, Fleming sexually abused several girls between the ages of 13 and 15.
The jury rejected his defense of reasonable mistake of age, finding him guilty of 23 counts of sexual abuse of a minor. In a press release from the Alaska Department of Law, the defendant was acquitted of one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor involving a fourth victim.
Fleming remains in custody and is held without bail. His sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 20.
He currently faces a combined sentence of 15 to 30 years on the charge of unlawful exploitation of a minor, five to 15 years on each of the 14 counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, and two to 12 years on each of the four counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor, and the three counts of possession of child pornography, and the count of distribution of indecent materials to minors.
