ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Rep. Nick Begich, R-Alaska, is retaining his crown for the most raised in the race for Alaska’s sole U.S. House seat as federal candidates release their second quarter earnings Wednesday.

The one-term congressman has raised $954,000, according to his campaign spokesperson, Paul Smith.

That figure is about 2.5 times higher than Independent Bill Hill’s earnings, which sit at $387,000, his spokesperson Kevin Groh told Alaska’s News Source.

“Our Q2 raise comes on the heels of a near-record breaking Q1 raise for any non-incumbent candidate for US House in Alaska, and adds to Bill’s growing momentum,” Groh said.

“Bill is now endorsed by more than 23 organizations, including the Alaska AFL-CIO, the National Education Association, the Alaska Center and End Citizens United, and he’s the only candidate who’s statistically tied with Nick Begich in independent polling.”

The Schultz campaign told Alaska’s News Source at 5:50 p.m. the candidate has raised $285,776.

In the first quarter, Begich raised over $1 million, according to a press release from his campaign. Hill trailed behind at about $780,000, then Schultz at $270,000.

National polling has the race as “likely Republican.”

There are 15 candidates in the race for U.S. House, according to the Division of Elections website.

In the state’s toss-up senate race, former congresswoman Mary Peltola doubled the earnings of incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, holding a competitive fundraising edge she’s maintained since she entered the race.

This is a developing story.
