‘You still have a piece of them’: Toddler survives fatal car crash that killed parents
Fairbanks family speaks out after losing brother and sister-in-law in fatal crash
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A fatal head-on collision on the Parks Highway last week killed a Fairbanks couple.
According to Alaska State Troopers, 38-year-old Sasha Hart and her husband, 41-year-old David Hart, were killed in the crash near Trapper Creek.
Their two-year-old daughter, Paige, was also in the Subaru and survived.
“She’s a miracle. Aren’t you?” Shery Elterman-Hart —the sister of David Hart — said as she held her niece during an interview with Alaska’s News Source.
According to the Hart family, the couple had just celebrated their 10-year anniversary and had crafted a life together in Fairbanks, where they intermixed Sasha’s Jamaican lifestyle and David’s Alaska lifestyle.
“She just became one of us. Like we were really close with David before they met. But then when she came, she just sort of lumped right in,” Elterman-Hart said.
The two of them enjoyed traveling, watching hockey and shared a love for food, the family said.
Above all, they loved being parents to their daughter.
“She was their entire world,” Katie Ragsdale, David Hart’s sister, said. “I don’t know if it’s Paige’s house or their house.”
The family told Alaska’s News Source that certain traits of David and Sasha are seen in Paige. From sharing the same “stink” face like her mom to her father’s sweet tooth.
“You still have a piece of them, a living piece of them still on Earth,” Ragsdale said.
According to the family, Paige is healing fast after suffering six broken bones from the crash.
