AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) - A man dressed in zombie makeup and clothing that looked like a Halloween costume is accused of stabbing two people Wednesday night at a coffee shop in southeast Austin, according to police.

The stabbing happened at Buzz Mill Coffee around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the Austin Police Department, 20-year-old Shanor Temple Grace then left in a pickup truck. APD said he hit an unoccupied Tesla Cybercab.

Officers arrested Grace a short time later as he walked on a nearby trail, APD said. He is facing two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Both victims were taken to a hospital. One had life-threatening injuries, and the other had non-life-threatening injuries. Both are now in stable condition.

Detectives are working to determine whether Grace knew the victims. Police have not said what led to the disturbance.

The stabbing comes as APD is urging people to take precautions around Halloween.

Asked whether police see criminals use Halloween costumes to commit crimes, Cmdr. Christopher Juusola of Austin police said:

“No, that’s not something that we normally observe downtown. And again, I think that one’s just related to it’s Halloween time. People are going to costume parties, and that’s what caused that to occur.”
