ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - An Anchorage man is deciding what to do next after a Dodge Ram crashed into the front of his house.

Scott Johnson said he wasn’t home when the crash took place on Oct. 18, but his house’s Ring camera caught the aftermath.

“I was gone, so everything was caught on the Ring camera,” Johnson said. “Out at dinner, Sunday night, just like 8:08 or so. The Ring cameras don’t kick on right away, so you don’t see the impact; starts off with him parked right in the front door there.

“Took him a good three quarters of that time just kind of backing in and out, in and out, and then finally getting himself back out there,” he said. “Looked a little chaotic, but I just got to witness it on video, like everyone else.”

About 20 minutes after the video was shot, the police arrived and contacted him, Johnson remembered. It was a call he didn’t even think he’d take.

“You get so many political calls that time of year that you’re not answering a lot of calls, and I happened to answer that one, and it was a police officer,” Johnson recounts. “He paused for a second like, ‘ok, this is not a political call,’ and gave me the story.

“I was like, ‘oh, this is real. Probably need to get home.’ Got home quick, and got to see this. Fun.”

Johnson said he isn’t sure yet how much it’ll take to repair the damage to the home.

“Homeowner’s insurance and things like that is there to help in times of need, so that part’s less of a big deal, but takes away from work, takes time from myself to deal with all the mess as well,” Johnson said. “There’s some decent damage, so [it’ll cost] a little bit.”

Johnson said it’s common in his area for things like that to happen. In fact, a car has hit his fence before. But as for what the city could do to stop these crashes, he wasn’t sure.

“It’s hard to stop drivers from doing dumb things at times,” he said.

Despite the heavy damage, Johnson is thankful that at least no one was hurt. Police are looking for the man driving the truck. So far, the driver has not been identified.

To the driver, Johnson had a message to tell.

“If he’s not willing to show his face, that’s on him. He has to live with it.”
