UAA Hockey Signs 6 Rookies for 2016-17 Season

UAA hockey coach Matt Thomas announced today that 6 players have signed their National Letters of Intent to play in Anchorage next season.

The rookie class consists of 2 forwards and 4 defensemen who hail from Finland, Canada and Germany.

Here's a breakdown of the new players:

Aleski Ainali: The forward led the Finnish junior league in scoring. Last season Ainali put up 67 points in 49 games. 50 of those points came from assists.

Corey Renwick: The forward has played for the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL for the past 4 seasons. Renwick posted 16 goals and 40 assists in his tenure.

Julius Marva: The 6'2, 175 lb. defenseman dressed for Lukka U-20 last year. In the Junior A league, Marva posted 10 goals and 25 assists in 88 career games.

Tomi Hiekkavirta: The 5'11, 165 lb. defenseman posted 27 points for HIFK U20 last season, playing in 45 games.

David Trinkberger: The 6'5, 207 lb. defenseman is UAA's largest recruit. Trinkberger spent 2 seasons with the Sioux City Musketeers and played for the Germany U20 team.

Nolan Nicholas: The 6'0, 201 lb. defeseman comes from the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede, and posted 7 points last season.
