Anchorage airport records its coldest temperature in 15 years
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - It was extremely frigid on Wednesday around Anchorage, especially at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, which recorded its coldest temperature in 15 years!
Just before midnight, Jan. 31, the temperature fell to 18 degrees below zero at the airport, its coldest day since January 2009. It also marked THE coldest temperature for any Jan. 31 in Anchorage, breaking the previous record of -17 in 1989.
And this morning, the official low of -16 tied the lowest temperature for Feb. 1 from 1993.
Continue to bundle up, because the extreme subzero weather will continue into the weekend.
Extreme cold, and we’re talking temperatures in the 30s, 40s and 50s below zero, will persist in the Interior. Conditions like these can result in frostbite of exposed flesh in short periods of time!
Southeast Alaska is dealing with snow again, as cold air moved in just as moisture was arriving from the south. Winter storm warnings and advisories will go into Friday.
