Police investigating single-vehicle crash that struck two children in Juneau

Two children were struck and injured by an SUV that crashed in Juneau on Wednesday afternoon, Juneau police say.
According to police, a 2008 Toyota Highlander was traveling north along Mendenhall Loop Road when it left the roadway, hit a culvert and crossed over Tongass Boulevard, striking and 11-year-old and a 12-year-old who were crossing the street. The Highlander rolled onto its side before coming to a stop.
Police say the 12-year-old child sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment. The 11-year-old suffered minor injuries from the collision and the 36-year-old driver of the Highlander was unhurt, police say.
“Traffic in the area was affected for about two hours as investigators processes the scene,” Juneau police wrote in a press release. “This case is still under investigation.”
